Fatigue, certain medications, fever or stress can cause a sudden fall of hair. This is known as telogen effluvium, a phenomenon often temporary. But widely in humans, even in women who alopecia develops gradually over time, is due to an imbalance in the scalp. After some personal research going back many years, I found some cheap products which appear formidable to restore the scalp and thus hair a makeover. I hope this post will be an opportunity to share more opinions interested in the question.
The origin of the progressive alopecia, there is the testosterone that is involved in the secretion of sebum. So men are more prone than women with alopecia (hair bald areas). When the entire skull has lost her hair it comes to baldness!
In the case of so-called androgenetic alopecia, is, paradoxically sebum, a fluid fat responsible for maintaining the hair that is responsible for hair loss!
Sebum is secreted into the follicle must flow along the hair but does not stagnate in the follicle. A very effective way to stop hair loss is to reduce the presence of sebum in the sensitive areas of the scalp. As the oily areas of face, showing large pores, the sensitive area of the scalp emerge in different forms in different individuals.
But beware the elimination of sebum should not be aggressively through the use of detergents and aggressive. It is through very mild lotions and re-balancing it is possible, with great patience to reduce the activity of sebaceous glands. It succeeds in giving back to each hair a lifetime sufficient for the whole hair regains its volume.
The negative role of sebum
Observations showed that the normal lifespan of a human hair is 2 or 3 years. Moreover, the hair follicle stem cells contains about 30 (disc) capable of generating as much new hair. Under these conditions, the hair must be maintained throughout the lifespan. There are many scientific writings explaining the role of sebum in the occurrence of alopecia. Other studies have focused on the resistance of hair pulling. The higher the hair follicle which grows in the hair root is invaded by the sebum; the hair shows less resistance to traction. Thus, a hair that falls so early due to mechanical action will cause premature to reject a new hair, which itself will fall even faster due to the immaturity of its mother cell. And so, the phenomenon is self-feeding, a few years the follicle becomes almost sterile. A normal hair cycle consists of three phases (anagen, catagen and telogen) and should last about 4 years for a healthy hair.
The most common way to describe the development of androgenetic alopecia refers to “excessive sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens (male hormones) often hereditary, which accelerate the life cycle of hair.”
Indicators of seborrhea:
- Generally, when observing a hair fell prematurely because of excess sebum, the root is surrounded by a white matrix of sebum. This sign is an indication that an anti-seborrheic brings an improvement.
- Some areas of the scalp are affected by falls and others not. What draws zones “fat” as the face of combination skin
- When you do not feel any pain when combing the hair hard, this is usually the sign of a bag of hair invasion by the sebum causing improper fixing of the hair on papille. Diagnosis must be made with great caution because hair in the telogen phase (phase of expulsion of the dead hair) will also drop out without pain.
What are the Effective treatments against hair loss and baldness?
There are, to my knowledge 2 drugstore treatments whose effectiveness has been clinically recognized, local treatment (minoxidil) and hormone replacement therapy or anti-androgen (Propecia). The first is a treatment “for life” which will cost several hundred dollars a year, and the second causes side effects. Their effectiveness is not always the rendezvous.
Lotions and shampoos:
It is appropriate to use non-aggressive for washing hair. Any sign of irritation when washing hair is a sign of using a shampoo that is ill-suited lead to extra secretion of sebum and an imbalance of the largest follicle.
All lotions that contain alcohol should be avoided for the same reason.
Essential oils:
Warning: Before using any essential oils for hair loss you need to do an allergy test on a limited surface of the skin. For example by applying a drop in the hollow of the elbow. If after 48 hours no effect was observed allergic you can logically start using this essential oil. Never ingest essential oil. Ask the advice of an aromatherapist or your doctor or pharmacist for continuous use. Because of their penetrating power is very important, most essential oils are used only under the skin. Pregnant women should take special precautions because of the abortifacient and neurotoxic properties of some extracts, such as ET mint.
An effective blend:
Here’s an effective blend in with the shampoo or applied to the hairline, after shampooing, rinse hair once but still wet. A few drops of essential oils of Tea Tree can be applied between the shampoo if you feel irritation.
TEA TREE (Melaleuca alternifolia): Anti-seborrheic regenerating skin cells / 5 drops
LAVENDER LAVENDER OR: Anti-Seborrheic / 5 drops
Rosemary cineole (Rosmarinus officinalis): Active in the development of appendages / 1 drop
BAY ST THOMAS: Strengthens micro circulation of the bulb. Attention relatively caustic / 1 drop
It can be very interesting to add vegetable oil rich and delicate as argan oil known for its effects on the keratin that participate in the restructuring of the skin and nourish the hair. In this case, leave on for at least 20 minutes then rinse with a mild shampoo.
Quantities are purely illustrative and should be adapted to each case. It is advisable to seek advice from a health professional.
I use the mixture Tea Tree + Lavender for nearly 10 years with very satisfactory results. This mixture replaces the pleasantly lotions shampoo commercial. The BAY ST THOMAS seems to give extra vitality to the hair, but I have less than six months away to judge its effectiveness. By cons, this essential oil should be used sparingly and well diluted in other oils because it is very caustic.
Essential oils for hair loss are known to slow the activity of sebaceous glands, improving blood flow to the bulb by vasodilatory effect and facilitate the removal of sebum at the papilla.
